Suffolk Construction Co. Inc., has been awarded its fourth building construction project for the Los Angeles Unified School District the new, $35.5-million South Region Middle School #3 campus.

Suffolk Wins LAUSDs South Region Middle School Project

The South Region Middle School #3 campus in the Walnut Park area will consist of four separate buildings that will include 38 classrooms for over 1,000 students. The facility will also include administration offices, learning community schools, food service, multi-purpose gymnasiums and fields, and a parking garage.

We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the Los Angeles Unified School District on our fourth high-profile school construction project together, says David Cavecche, general manager and executive vice president of the Irvine office of Suffolk Construction Co. West Coast. We are confident that our innovative project management approach, proven systems, and commitment to client service will result in a state-of-the-art facility that will instill a sense of pride in the schools faculty, students and surrounding community.

The LAUSD South Region Middle School #3 project will be a complicated project that will present several challenges during the construction phase, according to Suffolk. The project team will manage construction of all four buildings simultaneously, which will require tight management of all the trades and construction personnel. The site is also located in a densely populated neighborhood, so the close coordination of material deliveries and personnel will be critical to the success of the project. There will also be significant off-site work in two intersections just a few blocks from the jobsite, which will present additional logistical challenges on the project.

Suffolk will partner with architect Tetra Design of Los Angeles on this project. The project is scheduled to begin in March and will be completed in May 2012.

The Los Angeles Unified School District South Region Middle School #3 is a strategic win for Suffolk because it will allow us to strengthen our relationship with this repeat client, says Sam Laham, vice president of operations for the Education Group, Suffolk Construction West Coast.

Suffolk says it has developed a strong relationship with LAUSD due to its successful partnership on three separate building projects, including LAUSD High School #4, LAUSD Elementary School #6 and LAUSD High School #12.
