Thornton Tomasetti held its 2011 Annual Meeting at Baruch College in New York on May 12. The meeting included a session in which the firm’s designers from around the country each gave a five-minute presentation on projects they have been working on during the past year. Vornado Realty Trust’s The ACE Mentor Program of Greater New York

The ACE Mentor Program of Greater New York held its 16th annual luncheon scholarship fundraiser at the Union League Club on May 9. It awarded 68 scholarships to graduates who excelled throughout the 2010-2011 program. The event raised a total of $290,500. The Dr. Charles H. Thornton—ACE Mentor Program Class of 2015 Scholar was awarded $60,000. Another $12,500 was awarded to two ACE students by the Contractors’ Association of Greater New York. Vornado Realty Trust’s The New York City District Council of Carpenters

The New York City District Council of Carpenters held its 42nd Annual New York Citywide Graduating Apprentice Contest/ Exhibits/Open House on April 20 at the Labor Technical College, located at 395 Hudson St. in New York. Apprentices competed in five areas of the council�s jurisdiction: carpentry, interior systems, floor covering,millwright and cabinetmaking. In addition, there were exhibits on dock building, health and safety training and welding. Participants competed for prizes while representing their local unions.
