At the end of 2012, the two firms signed two US$110 million loans for the construction of Los Vientos I and Los Vientos II wind farm projects in Willacy and Cameron Counties in Texas. The firms planned to complete the projects by the end of 2012, but final work is still underway.

Duke Energy Renewables is developing both projects, while the NADB is involved with financing the wind farms.

Los Vientos I is being built on 12,800 acres of private land located in both Willacy and Cameron Counties, about 10 miles north of the city of Harlingen. The project includes the design, construction and operation of the 200.1-megawatt (MW) wind farm. A total of 87 wind turbines, each with a nominal capacity of 2.3 MW, are to be installed on the site. Construction will also include a substation, an 8.5-mile transmission line to connect to the wind farm to the grid and a SCADA system for remote monitoring and control.

Meanwhile, Los Vientos II is located on 12,000 acres of private land about 10 miles north of Harlingen in Cameron County. The 201.6-MW wind farm will include 84 wind turbines with a capacity of 2.4 MW each, a substation, a 7.5-mile transmission line as well as a SCADA system.

CPS Energy of San Antonio will buy the electricity produced by Los Vientos I, while Austin Energy will purchase the electricity produced by Los Vientos II.
