The Austin Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America honored projects from across Central Texas at its annual Outstanding Construction Awards.

The contest honored projects completed during 2012.

“This year’s winners featured the usual mix of both small and large projects, including the incredibly successful Circuit of the Americas/Formula 1 project,” says Phil Thoden, president and CEO of the Austin Chapter of AGC. “Though the larger projects tend to be higher profile and garner greater public attention, the smaller projects have just as much a positive impact on those communities they serve.”

Among the winners were two projects at local universities. Thoden noted that construction spending from that sector has typically been more consistent than the private market in the Austin area.

“We also continue to see a number of health care and secondary school projects as those markets remain strong in the growing Central Texas market. The interior finish out categories are also popular as local companies grow and require office and retail space,” he says.

Austin AGC’s contest continues to see strong participation every year, and as the economy picks up, Thoden expects to see even more entries.

“We may see some of the apartment and multi-family projects entered in the competition later this year as those projects finish up,” he says.
