A team of 66 employees of McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. teamed up with Clark Construction and three subcontractor partners recently to raise over $5,000 for military members and their families in the annual 10-K World Famous Mud Run at the Camp Pendleton Base north of Oceanside.

The Clark/McCarthy team captured fourth place out of 293 in the Mixed Division, placed number 14 out of 70 in the Female Division, and ran away with three of the top five spots in the Corporate Division, including a fourth place overall. The Clark/McCarthy team also had the highest number of participants of any sponsor.

This year’s Mud Run was held over three consecutive weekends in mid-June. Proceeds raised from the race benefitted the Camp Pendleton Armed Services YMCA. The Mud Run was held along a challenging 10K (6.2-mile) course that looped around Lake O’Neill.  The course presented runners with steep hills, tire obstacles, river crossings, two 5-ft walls with mud on all sides, a tunnel crawl, slippery hill climb, and the final 30-ft mud pit. All team members had to cross the finish line together for the team to qualify for awards.

Held from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., all five races also featured “Filthy Fun” events staged at the start/finish line, with free concerts, contests and giveaways.  Approximately 6,000 military members and civilians participated in the races and festivities.

McCarthy employees – 45 men and 21 women – comprised almost half of the 155-member Clark/McCarthy team.

The joint venture design-build team of Clark Construction Group, LLC, and McCarthy Building Cos. Inc., is building the new 500,000-sq-ft Naval Replacement Hospital Project at Camp Pendleton. It is the largest American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project to be awarded by the Department of the Navy. When complete in early 2014, the new $394-million, multi-level hospital will serve active duty military from all service branches, reservists, retirees and family members.
