Specialty Contracting Award of Merit - Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Headquarters
The 900,000-sq-ft headquarters revitalizes a city block in downtown Seattle and brings together 1,500 employees onto one campus. The $500-million LEED-Platinum project includes two boomerang-shaped structures with gardens and a 15,000-sq-ft interactive museum. Included in the work was over 300,000 sq ft of custom unitized curtain wall and a cable wall for the museum building. These pieces required custom glass connection systems to complete the buildings' facades, all while ensuring that enough daylight entered the structure's interior. All workstations are positioned within 30 feet of natural light, highlighting the city-leading sustainable strategies that are a focus of façade contractor Enclos Corp., Los Angeles.
